Premier Orthodontics is a great resource for you if you think you may benefit from combining orthodontic treatment with oral surgery. Our philosophy is that oral surgery should only be used as a last option when it’s been determined that it’s necessary in order to correct severe skeletal issues that result from teeth not fitting properly together. Before recommending oral surgery as the best course of action, we’ll thoroughly evaluate your case and explore all non-surgical treatment options. While there are specific orthodontic scenarios in which oral surgery may be required to correct a problem, we’ve developed a reputation for being able to correct a range of classically challenging orthodontic problems without having to perform oral surgery.
If you’ve been examined by a doctor who has already recommended oral surgery, we suggest that you contact us to schedule an evaluation.
Oral surgery is a very specialized segment of dentistry, and it is often referred to more specifically as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Certain dental specialists may perform oral surgery to address issues such as impacted teeth, dental implants, facial infections, facial injuries, sleep apnea, TMJ disorders, and other issues. Some of these issues may be loosely or directly related to an orthodontic condition, and as a result, oral surgery to correct one of these issues could be part of an overarching orthodontic treatment strategy—in which case we’re a great resource in Ventura County for this kind of treatments. Many oral surgeons will also perform procedures to address issues such as facial trauma injuries, oral pathology, cleft lip and/or palate, and other issues which would not typically be performed under the scope of orthodontic treatment. We’re focused on oral surgery specifically as it relates to ongoing orthodontic treatment.
Part of our mission is to provide the most comprehensive family-focused orthodontic resource in Ventura County. If you’re not sure if we can help with your case, please contact us regardless. We’ll be happy to evaluate you, and if we’re not the best option for your case, we’ll refer you to a trusted doctor who is.
It’s important to keep in mind that each case is unique. Two separate patients may be experiencing the same type of orthodontic complication, and while one may benefit from surgical correction of the problem, the other may not require it. It’s also possible that a patient may be experiencing an orthodontic complication that doesn’t typically require surgical correction, but the case could be severe enough to need surgical correction in some instances. While typical cases at Premier Orthodontics don’t require any surgery at all, among cases that do require surgery it’s normal to observe patients with issues such as:
In the great majority of these cases, we can solve these problems without surgery using traditional braces and other orthodontic treatment strategies. If your case does require surgery, with Premier Orthodontics you’ll be in a trusted experts’ care, and having your procedure performed by the same experts treating your orthodontic case is the optimal way to proceed with this combined treatment.
